SummaCare has announced the appointment of a new chief medical officer.

Effective Sept. 22, Dr. Matthew Voll began the new role, where he will lead initiatives around clinical strategy and quality, according to a news release from the health insurance firm.

Voll has clinical experience in emergency medicine from Cleveland Clinic, as well as background in management consulting with a focus on financial optimization, according to the release.

Voll earned a physician executive MBA from the University of Tennessee, the release said. He previously served as Midwest regional medical director for Humana Insurance. He also served as a special operations combat medic in the Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment.
