Birchway Niagara has received a big boost in its campaign to improve the experience of women and children seeking safety from abuse.
Jana and Michael Katz have gifted $750,000 in support of Birchway’s $5.5-million Creating Safe Spaces campaign to expand its 45-bed shelter on McLeod Road in Niagara Falls.
The project will add 15 safe beds that will accommodate families with pets, said a news release announcing Monday’s donation. Also part of the expansion is a community room for clients to gather with family, and additional office spaces for collaboration and programming. The agency will also install a generator to ensure the shelter is safe and in operation when power goes out.
With the latest gift, the campaign has raised $3.8 million.
