The Utah Humanities Book Festival comes to Summit County with a story set in San Francisco told by a girl who immigrated to the United States.

Authors Heather B. Moore and Allison Hong Merrill, who are based respectively in Orem and Lehi, will talk about “The Paper Daughters of Chinatown,” their book for young adults, at 5 p.m. on Oct. 3 at the Summit County Library Kamas Valley Branch, 110 Main St.

The book is about Donaldina Cameron, who helped more than 2,000 Chinese immigrant girls and women escape from forced prostitution and contracted slavery during the late 1800s in Chinatown. The story is told by one of the girls, named Tien Fuh Wu, who grew up to help others escape that fate.

“The original version of the book was written by Heather, and it was for adults,” Hong Merrill said. “
