The most recent statistics from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) reveal that over 3.8 million people across Great Britain are currently claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP). However, the latest data published in the 2024/25 Fraud and Error in the Benefit System report suggests that 11 percent of claimants are under-claiming PIP due to unreported changes in their circumstances.
PIP has the second highest rate of unclaimed eligibility - previously known as claimant error - among all benefits, and its relatively high expenditure accounted for 30 percent of total unclaimed eligibility last year. The amount of unclaimed eligibility for PIP was £1,060m (4.1 percent), compared to £870m (£4 percent) in 2023/24.
