A New York man is accused of sexually assaulting a child in Elmwood Park, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s office said Tuesday.
Jose Mendez-Ortiz, 51, of Pearl River, New York, has been charged with three counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated criminal sexual contact.
According to authorities, Mendez-Ortiz was arrested on Sunday following an investigation by the prosecutor’s office and the Elmwood Park Police Department.
Attorney information for Mendez-Ortiz was not immediately available.
He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending an initial appearance in Bergen County Superior Court, officials said.
