GARY — Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old Michigan City man found in a Gary alley.

In a statement to The Times, the Gary Police Department said it received a call for service in reference to a welfare check in the rear of 526 E. Ridge Road Sept. 10 just after 10 p.m. There, officers discovered a man lying face down in the alley with a gunshot wound.

The Lake County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as Christian Barnes and confirmed the manner of death as homicide following a forensic autopsy conducted at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point.

The Lake County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force is investigating the case. Anyone with information may contact the task force at 219-755-3855 or leave an anonymous tip through the City
