SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK)-- The Smith County Commissioners Court honored the Lindale Police sergeant and a dispatcher on Tuesday with Community Hero Awards for their life-saving efforts that saved a 2-year-old girl from choking earlier this month.
On Sept. 7, dispatcher Kimberly Smith answered a 911 call about a toddler choking on a small toy at a Lindale restaurant, and sergeant Michael Lazarine responded immediately, performing the Heimlich Maneuver, successfully saving the child's life.
Lazarine has been in law enforcement for 26 years, beginning his career with the Smith County Sheriff's Office in 1999 before joining the Lindale Police Department in 2001. He has served in various roles, including patrol officer and community police officer, and is currently a patrol sergeant.
