ATLANTIC CITY — City Council last week awarded a contract to South State Inc. of Bridgeton to pave Atlantic Avenue as part of a multimillion-dollar improvement project, the city said.
The project will include paving from Tennessee to Albany avenues, traffic light synchronization, surveillance cameras and upgraded pedestrian facilities such as high-visibility crosswalks, improved lighting and ADA-compliant ramps, the city said Tuesday in a news release.
City officials said at a news conference last month that the project was expected to cost $17.3 million. Of that total, $10.3 million is coming from the federal government, while the other $7 million was provided by eight grants the resort acquired, Jim Rutala, the city’s grant consultant, said at the time.
