Cowetans gathered last Friday at Veterans Memorial Park to honor former prisoners of war and soldiers who are missing in action.
The annual POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremony was held Sept. 19.
POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed annually on the third Friday of September. The day was established by Congress in 1998.
In 1990, Congress recognized the POW/MIA flag. The flag is required to be flown on Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, National POW/MIA Recognition Day and Veterans Day. It must be flown below the national flag and above any state flag.
