DOÑA ANA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) — A mother in southern New Mexico was formally charged on Monday morning in connection to a DWI crash that killed two children. Investigators say Christina Escobeda-Arriaga crashed into a pole and fence in Vado, New Mexico earlier this month.
The crash left the community mourning after it killed Escobeda-Arriaga's 12-year-old daughter and another 15-year-old passenger. A third passenger, who is also 15 years old, survived with extensive injuries. Escobeda-Arriaga has been charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle, one count of great bodily harm with a vehicle, one count of driving under the influence, and three counts of child abuse - two of which resulted in death.
