Apple TV+ is postponing its upcoming thriller series "The Savant" about domestic extremism and online hate groups starring Jessica Chastain, days before it was slated to premiere.
"After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone 'The Savant.' We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date," Apple TV+ confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
The streamer did not explain the decision to postpone the show. USA TODAY has reached out to Chastain's representatives for comment.
The series was initially set to drop on Friday, Sept. 26, and star Chastain, who plays an undercover investigator who "infiltrates online hate groups in an effort to stop domestic extremists before they act," according to the show's official synopsis.
The postponement comes after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot earlier this month at a Utah college campus.
What is 'The Savant' about?
"The Savant" follows an undercover investigator and mother named Jodi Goodwin (Chastain) who looks into an extremist's online network after a mass shooting occurs.
"I track people who are planning attacks. My job is pretending to think like them to stop people from doing really bad things," Chastain's character Jodi says in a trailer posted Aug. 26.

Along with the Oscar-winning actress, the cast also includes Nnamdi Asomugha, Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley and Toussaint Francois Battiste.
How many episodes of 'The Savant'?
The AppleTV+ thriller series titled "The Savant" will consist of eight episodes.
The first two were initially set to drop on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, then air every Friday through Nov. 7, 2025.
