GREENBELT, Md. — The Trump administration asked a federal judge Monday to dismiss the latest effort by Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia to remain in the country, saying his efforts to fight deportation to Africa should be heard in immigration court.

“Petitioner’s claims are both procedurally barred and meritless – even unserious,” attorneys for the Justice Department wrote.

Abrego Garcia sued the government in federal court in Maryland in August to block plans in place at the time to deport him to Uganda. The Department of Homeland Security has since said it intends to seek his removal to the small African kingdom of Eswatini.
