The Truckee River Flood Management Authority will meet Wednesday afternoon to discuss the proposal to transform a section of land next to the Truckee River into athletic fields.

Under the plan, the 168-acre area to the south of the Truckee River along Mill Street from Rock Boulevard to McCarran could be partially used for athletic fields as well as flood mitigation.

Lacrosse proponents are in favor of using a portion of the area for 11 fields, which could also be used for soccer and flag football, and are encouraging the public to let the board members know their feelings.

Wednesday's online meeting , scheduled for 3-5 p.m., is just for discission. The project will be voted on at the board's Oct. 10 meeting.
