HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio —
The Hamilton County Public Health Department has confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus in the county for 2025.
According to the health department, a resident of Sycamore Township has been infected with the virus. Advertisement
Health officials said that in most cases, people who are bitten by a mosquito with West Nile virus will not develop symptoms or will have a minimal reaction. In rarer cases, the virus can cause serious illness, including neurologic illness.
Cincinnati had 24 West Nile virus positive mosquito pools in 2024, which far exceeded the average of six positive pools in the past 10 years. No human infections were diagnosed last year, according to the health department.
