Belleville’s final Gaetane Harvey Memorial Walk has raised more than $20,000 for the Belleville General Hospital Foundation, with a total of more than $247,000 raised in its 11 years.

Harvey died in 2006 following “a brief but hard fought battle against breast cancer,” the event’s webpage reads.

Her daughters founded the walk in memory of their mother. It’s a 53-km tribute – one kilometre for every year of her life. The 11 th walk through the city’s streets was held Saturday and Sunday.

“This walk isn’t just about her. It has grown into much more than that,” daughter Lisa McAuley said in a foundation news release. “It has grown with each walker that has registered and shared their own stories.
