Tina has always been a light sleeper. But in the wake of an attempted overnight car theft in Toronto that sent her husband Dave to hospital, now all she can think about is how much she wishes she hadn't woken up.

Tina was the first person in her home to hear the sounds of someone breaking into one of her family's vehicles in the area of Dufferin Street and Rogers Road Tuesday morning. CBC News is using pseudonyms for the family members' names because of concerns for their safety.

"I feel guilty," Tina told CBC Toronto. "You see this everyday on the news, but you never think that it's going to happen to you."
