The rubber is starting to meet the road on tariffs.

Motor vehicle repair prices are up 15% compared to a year ago and 5% from July to August, according to the Consumer Price Index.

Joel Matias, owner of Lucero’s Tire Shop in Plainville, said the pricing for tires is “totally different.”

“A lot of people pay way more for tires, even though they’re new or used,” Matias said. “A lot of tires come in overseas and the tires that they make here in the United States, they’re way more expensive.”

In May, the Trump administration placed a 25% tariff on imports of auto parts, and 50% on steel and aluminum.
