Fort Erie’s plan for the future of the old Douglas Memorial hospital building is moving forward — and piquing the interest of the provincial government and health-care organizations, says Mayor Wayne Redekop.

He said the town’s plan for the building, which houses the Niagara Health urgent care centre and will be decommissioned after the new south Niagara Falls hospital opens in 2028, “will improve access to health care not only for Fort Erie, but for everybody in Niagara, and it will improve the operation and effectiveness of Niagara Health in our view.”

“Everybody who has seen it thinks very highly of it,” he said. “We believe it’s something that can happen and will happen.”
