WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WFSB) - The state has agreed to pay more than $2,000,000 to settle a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Joyce Grayson, a visiting nurse killed by her patient at a halfway house in 2023.
63-year-old Grayson was found dead in the basement of a Willimantic home with neck compression and blunt force injuries.
Michael Reese later pleaded guilty to her murder. He was living at the home while on probation after serving time for stabbing and sexually assaulting a woman in 2006.
The lawsuit alleged state officials failed to properly supervise Reese.
