TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- Starting Sept. 25, anyone who is legally allowed to own a firearm will be able to openly carry it in public in Florida.

The change comes after an appeals court ruled that a long-standing ban was unconstitutional.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has defended the change.

"Thirty-eight states have open carry. It's not something that's controversial. The sky hasn't fallen in any of those," DeSantis said earlier this month.

Even though open carry will be allowed, there are limits on where guns can go.

Firearms are still prohibited in: • Government buildings • Courthouses • Polling places • Schools • Certain private businesses
