In reflection of the one-year mark since Hurricane Helene brought unimaginable devastation to western North Carolina, the state is measuring progress made in the recovery effort as the region tries to return to normalcy.

Gov. Josh Stein highlighted the infrastructure milestones made for the area's highways, water management systems and state parks. The challenges brought on by the damage have required the state's resilience and perseverance in the face of hardship.
