ASHEVILLE - City detectives charged a man with first-degree murder following an early morning homicide Sept. 23 on Interstate 26 East, according to the Asheville Police Department.

Kenneth Lontrell Christian, 41, of Arden, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Carly Elizabeth Johnson, 50, according to an updated news release from the department just after 1:30 p.m. Detectives consulted with the Buncombe County District Attorney's Office before the charge was served against Christian at 12:34 p.m., according to his arrest warrant and the news release.

Christian was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under no bond issued by a magistrate.
