St. Catharines city councillors have added their voices to a growing call on the federal government to make the national sex offender registry publicly accessible after hearing impassioned pleas from supporters for change Monday night.
“The reality is people have had enough,” said St. George’s Coun. Kevin Townsend, who brought a motion to council following last month’s attack on a Welland toddler.
“People do not want to deal with this anymore. And the reality is we want our communities to be safe.”
Townsend said he hopes every Canadian municipality puts pressure on their members of Parliament to change the legislation.
“I want to be very clear. This is not a partisan issue ,” he said.
