A New Jersey college topped the newest list of best national universities from U.S. News and World Report.

Princeton University came in at No. 1 on the list released by the national media company Sept. 23. The school finished ahead of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and fellow Ivy League institution Harvard, slotting in at second and third, respectively.

Princeton is a private school with an average cost of $65,210 in tuition and fees, according to U.S. News and World Report . It has a 75% four-year graduation rate, while the median salary of alumni six years after graduation is $87,815.
