AVONDALE, Ariz. — A man was rescued from a Valley canal after police officers and bystanders pulled him from the water on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident was reported at about 1 p.m. at the Roosevelt Irrigation District Canal located near 101st Avenue and Encanto Boulevard. Avondale police said officers responded to a report of a man drowning in the water.
When officers arrived at the scene, they observed several citizens utilizing ropes to try to pull the man from the water. Officers deployed flotation devices and, in conjunction with the ropes, they were able to rescue the individual.
Police said the man was alert and conscious after getting out of the water. He was transported to a hospital as a precautionary measure.
