Home renovations typically target the two rooms with the highest traffic: the kitchen and the bathroom. A basement might get some reno love, or perhaps a master bedroom. But the staircase? It’s not an obvious choice.
Nevertheless, a main staircase can be both highly visible and regularly used. And, say experts, one that’s appealing and feels modern can make for a good return on investment.
“In many homes, a central staircase is a focal point of the main entrance and plays a key role in that first impression,” says the blog for The Griffin Group, a real estate firm based in Oakville, Ont.
“An attractive staircase can really put a smile on those potential buyers’ faces. At the other end of the spectrum, an outdated, worn, or damaged staircase will take the air out of that big moment.”
