French President Emmanuel Macron stated that U.S. President Donald Trump could only win the Nobel Peace Prize if he successfully ends the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Macron made these comments on Tuesday while speaking to BFMTV during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Macron emphasized that the United States has the unique ability to influence Israel to halt its military operations in Gaza. He remarked, "There is only one person who could do something in the current situation — the American president." He added, "The Nobel Peace Prize is only possible if you stop this conflict."

Macron highlighted the need for pressure on the Israeli government to cease its actions in Gaza, stating, "You need to pressure the Israeli government so it stops, it stops the Gaza conflict, so we finally release the hostages" held by Hamas.

Despite France's recognition of a Palestinian state, Macron acknowledged that the U.S. holds more sway over Israel. He explained, "Why can he (the U.S. president) do more than us? We do not deliver arms (to Israel) that allow the Gaza conflict to be waged."

He also noted that the establishment of a Palestinian state hinges on Israel's recognition, saying, "A Palestinian state will truly be created on the day the State of Israel recognises it."

Macron addressed concerns about potential Israeli retaliation against France for its stance on Palestinian statehood, assuring that France is prepared for all possible outcomes. He stated, "We are ready. We have planned for all possible options, which means we will never remain inert."

Earlier, Macron's return to the French embassy was delayed due to roadblocks for Trump's convoy. He was seen engaging with police officers and jokingly calling Trump while waiting on the street.
