Oklahoma State athletic director Chad Weiberg addressed the media Tuesday following the university’s decision to part ways with longtime head coach Mike Gundy, calling the move one of the most difficult of his career.
A Difficult but Necessary Choice
The decision came after results on the field no longer matched the standard Gundy himself had established. “There’s no such thing as a good time. But when it became clear expectations weren’t being met, it was time to act so we could start the process of moving the program forward.”
The timing midseason and just days after a loss to Tulsa was not anticipated. “I fully expected this season’s results to be different. But for the good of the program, it was time to make this decision now.”
