A man spent nearly four months in Louisville’s jail after being wrongfully accused of assaulting a partner and firing a gun into the air, according to a preliminary investigation by the city’s Office of Inspector General.
Announcing the findings Sept. 23 during a meeting of the Civilian Review and Accountability Board, Inspector General Ed Harness said an LMPD detective carried out a “flawed investigation” into the 2023 incident, leading to the mistaken arrest of Michael D. Anderson.
Harness said the 29-year-old was unlawfully seized in violation of his Fourth Amendment right against unreasonable search and seizure and that the case highlights “systematic failures” across the Jefferson County legal system.
