KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — New details are being released after a fiery crash involving multiple vehicles on I-40 West near Mile Marker 372 on Sept. 17.
Rural Metro Fire crews responded to the early morning crash and found both a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol crash report, the incident began when one tractor-trailer rear-ended another that was hauling a Tesla. The impact caused the Tesla to fall off the trailer and come to an uncontrolled stop beneath the axles of the second truck.
The two vehicles then became engulfed in flames.
Crews put out the fire, and cleanup took an extended period of time, according to Rural Metro. Westbound lanes of I-40 reopened after almost six hours following the extensive cleanup.
