LENORE, W.Va. (WSAZ) - On Aug. 1, Zerique Hardy left his girlfriend’s home in Lenore, West Virginia. A few minutes later, Zerique mistook a curve. His car smashed into a tree and then fell into the creek on the side of the road.

Zerique died from his injuries. He was 27 years old.

Zerique’s girlfriend Amber Ledson won’t let herself forget that day. In the nearly two months since the accident, she says she’s visited the spot at least every other day. Her kids even left a toy for Zerique on the tree.

“We all miss him and love him, and we know he’s resting peacefully with God,” Ledson told WSAZ.

Zerique is far from the only person to have an accident on this curve on Laurel Creek Road, or even to have died there. In 2022, Melissa Copley also died when her car crashed into a tree and end
