MUSKEGON, MI - Muskegon officials voted to denounce racial profiling in law and immigration enforcement during the Muskegon City Commission meeting on Tuesday.
The decision comes weeks after a U.S. Supreme Court decision earlier this month that reversed a lower court order blocking federal immigration agents from stopping individuals based on ethnicity and other factors.
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Muskegon Commissioner Jay Kilgo brought a resolution in response to the decision, challenging the idea of agents “stopping and questioning people based on their perceived ethnicity alone.”
The measure was approved unanimously among present commissioners.
