GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily) - A Gilbert family with a disabled child has a difficult path ahead with his health. They’re preparing for the worst-case scenario: what if their son’s heart stops at school?
The family’s doctors said that with his unique case, CPR would likely do more harm than good.
But school leaders said they can’t just stand by and not try to save a student who goes into cardiac arrest. A do not resuscitate (DNR) order is something Gilbert Public Schools wants nothing to do with.
No parent wants to plan for their child’s life to end, especially at school. But for those raising medically complex children, having that kind of plan is an unfortunate part of their reality.
Susie and Brett Jackson love their son, Rigo. “He’s just brought so much joy to our family,” said Susie. T
