Heisman hopeful John Mateer is undergoing wrist surgery Wednesday, OU announced.
Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables announced Tuesday that starting quarterback John Mateer will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a right-hand injury sustained in the Sooners’ 24-17 win over Auburn.
Venables said the procedure is the best option for Mateer’s recovery and that the expectation is for him to return to action later this season.
“After consulting with medical experts, it became clear that surgery is the best option for John and his short- and long-term future,” Venables said. “He’s extremely disappointed he will miss some game action but is eager to correct the issue and move forward. As he is with everything, we know he will be aggressive with his rehabilitation and work to return to the fiel
