TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Tucson City Council members have approved a one-year pilot program to assist residents facing challenges in renting homes.

The program, known as Housing Alternatives for Urban Strength (HAUS), aims to help individuals with poor credit or rental history secure housing.

The HAUS program provides incentives for landlords to accept tenants who may not qualify under traditional criteria due to low income.

It covers some move-in costs, utility, and internet fees.

Landlords participating in HAUS can receive up to $2,500 per tenant for unpaid rent or damages.

Council Member Paul Cunningham has been a strong advocate for this initiative.
