BELLE PLAINE, Kan. (KSNW) -- Recent rain is wreaking havoc on the Kansas corn harvest. The latest data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows this year’s harvest is behind schedule compared to the same time last year.
"It's time to get some work done, and hopefully it looks like after this bout of rain, maybe we are headed toward a dryer stretch of weather, and we certainly, certainly need it," Kent Moore, the chairman of the Kansas Corn Commission, said.
Moore said he’s one of many corn farmers across the Sunflower State anxious to get into the fields. According to the USDA, Kansas has harvested 20% of its corn so far, compared to 39% at this point last year.
"We just have the problem of extremely saturated soils, and it's hard to get the equipment off the fields successfully,"
