EASTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - A man has been sentenced to three years in prison for setting the Congregational Church of Eastford on fire in 2023 as a juvenile.

The church was a local landmark built in 1829.

The suspect, who has not been identified due to their age at the time of the crime, pleaded guilty on June 20, 2025, to arson in the second degree. His case was transferred to adult court due to the seriousness of the charge.

Attorney McMahon said, “The damage in this case extends far beyond the buildings that were burned. Those buildings were gathering places for the community that held generational memories for the people of the towns. The emotional impact of the damage will continue long after the buildings have been rebuilt.”
