With the weather starting to warm, large crowds are expected to soon start flocking to the Shoalhaven's beaches.
Yet big storms and large seas over winter have changed conditions on many of the beaches, providing challenges even for those familiar with their favourite swimming spots.
Surf Life Saving patrols begin on Saturday, September 27, on Mollymook Beach which continues to be the Shoalhaven's most popular stretch of sand.
Mollymook Beach Surf Life Saving Club captain, Mick Crowle, said all the volunteer lifesavers had gone through reassessments during the off season to bring them up to date with the latest methods of beach management, rescue procedures, first aid and CPR techniques in time for patrols starting at South Mollymook.
