KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The final nail in the 2025 Kansas City Royals coffin was hammered Tuesday night in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Cleveland Guardians, storming up the AL Wild Card race and into contention for the AL Central, rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Detroit Tigers, 5-2.

Cleveland’s win, its 85th of the season, officially closed the book on the Kansas City Royals’ minuscule chances of reaching the playoffs entering the last week of the season. Entering the final week, Kansas City needed to go 6-0 and have the Guardians and Houston Astros each go winless.
