LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky Derby-winning jockey appears to be on the mend after a scary fall at Churchill Downs led to serious injuries.
Brian Hernandez Jr. posted an official update from his X account on Tuesday night. He confirmed he had a successful surgery to stabilize his rib injuries.
“I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers! The doctors here at UofL have been absolutely fantastic,” he said. “Hopefully one step closer to going home. Many thanks.”
Hernandez was riding St. Garcia in the third race at Churchill Downs on Sunday when the cold injured one of his front legs near the 5/16th pole which cause Hernandez to be thrown to the ground.
