A Fort Wayne man was sentenced to 12 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to felonies stemming from when he fired a pistol into an apartment with several people inside, including four young children.

Michael D. Kelso, 32, initially faced seven charges, including attempted murder, after police say he was trying to kill a woman on Feb. 10, 2024, when he fired a gun into an apartment. Earlier this month, he pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal recklessness, along with battery by bodily waste and a sentencing enhancement for being a habitual offender by entering a plea agreement.

That agreement was accepted Tuesday by Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull. She ordered him to serve back-to-back sentences of three years for the first criminal recklessness charge; four for the second; 2
