A solar power project planned for Brockville’s regional airport now has the backing in principle of both its municipal hosts.
Brockville council on Tuesday endorsed a municipal support resolution allowing the multimillion-dollar project to proceed to its next step, while Elizabethtown-Kitley Township passed a similar resolution at its meeting on Sept. 15.
The decisions do not constitute final approval, but indicate support in principle for the proposed five-megawatt solar project at the Brockville-Thousand Islands Regional Tackaberry Airport.
Vaughan-based Alectra Energy Solutions, in partnership with Montreal-based Kruger Energy, want to build the facility on approximately 30 acres of land at the south-east end of the airport site, hoping to begin operations in 2029.
