ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD) – The City of Isle of Palms honored two good samaritans Tuesday night who jumped into action and saved a rideshare driver who accidentally drove into Morgan Creek last August.

The incident happened on Saturday, Aug. 23, as heavy rain fell over the area, causing the driver to become disoriented.

Robert Heaton and Thomas "Brandon" Blackwell were honored with the Isle of Palms 30 award, which is rarely given out to individuals who demonstrate special citizen service.

"I just kept repeating to him, "Take your seatbelt off." Thank the good lord the seatbelt did come off of him, but in the process of trying to get him out, he did go under the water, so time was of the essence," Heaton explained.
