WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — A federal jury on Tuesday convicted a Hawaii man of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump in a planned sniper attack at Trump International Golf Club, the Department of Justice said in a news release .
Ryan Wesley Routh, 59, was found guilty on several counts, including attempted assassination, after jurors heard evidence of a scheme that spanned weeks and involved surveillance, weapons and a handwritten confession.
Prosecutors said Routh traveled from Hawaii to Florida with a high-powered SKS-style rifle, armor plates and surveillance gear.
