AUSTIN, Texas — A longstanding staple of Austin’s arts community is preparing to close its doors. The Curtain Theatre, a replica of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre nestled along the shores of Lake Austin, will host its final production this October after more than 20 years of bringing classical works to life.

The Baron’s Men, a local theater company, have performed at the Curtain Theatre since it was built. Executive Artistic Director Lindsay M. Palinsky said the venue came about thanks to Richard Garriott, a friend of the founders, who offered to build them the Elizabethan-style space.

“There is no other stage like this in Austin or in Texas,” she said. “I believe The Curtain Theatre is one of maybe a half dozen Elizabethan replica theaters in the entire United States.”
