OMAHA, Neb. —

With medical marijuana now legal in Nebraska, where can it be grown and sold in Omaha? A proposed city ordinance looks to answer that question.

It was the topic of a public hearing at Tuesday's city council meeting.

"Whether you supported the ballot measure or not, this is something that we need to do to be responsible at the city level," Councilman Pete Festersen said.

The ordinance is not about regulating medical marijuana, but about zoning.

By Oct. 1, Nebraska's Medical Marijuana Commission will have to start approving applications.

"The state hasn't set out permanent regulations yet in terms of how this is going to be done," City Attorney Matt Kushe told KETV.

But Kuhse says now is the time for Omaha to think about zoning.
