NEWPORT, WA. – Pend Oreille County Fire District 4 has voted to merge with Fire District 2 following a proposal from District 4 Fire Chief Robert Webber.

This decision made during the Fire Commissioner meeting on September 17 is expected to lower tax rates for District 4 taxpayers and increase staffing resources.

Chief Webber emphasized that the merger would enhance service delivery and streamline expenses. "I needed to know that a merger would provide for better and consistent service to the residents and visitors of Fire District 4, and I heard answers that exceeded my expectations," Webber said.

Webber noted the strong working relationship between the two districts as a key factor in the decision, highlighting the trust built over the past year.
