KALIHI, Hawaii (Island News) -- Crime is rising in the Kahili area with four shootings in the past month, all within walking distance from each other.
Honolulu Police Department (HPD) Assistant Chief Brian Lynch said, "There has been a slight uptick in crime, especially violent crime. Any crime is a problem for us, but specifically violent crime that affects the whole community is really concerning."
Police are now stepping in even more by increasing the police patrol.
"So just know that we are out there and we're making a difference," Lynch added.
But keeping these areas safe isn't a one department job.
"For us, we can't be everywhere. So community participation is huge for us," said Lynch.
