In response to relentless rainfall in the upper catchment areas, authorities at Hirakud Dam have opened four additional gates, bringing the total number of open gates to twelve.

This strategic move aims to manage the surging inflow and maintain safe reservoir levels.

Currently, eight gates on the left bank and four on the right are discharging water downstream. Official data reveals that the dam is receiving 2,05,426 cusecs of water per second, while 1,67,307 cusecs are being released. The water level has risen to 629.97 feet, prompting close monitoring by dam officials.
