Car tax confusion means drivers of popular vehicles are liable for a £4,400 cost hike this year. Double cab pick-up trucks were reclassified by Labour Party Chancellor Rachel Reeves as company cars at the Autumn Budget last year.
But road users left confused over the tax re-classification could face higher bills. Since April 2025, double and extended cab pick-ups are now classed as company cars for benefit in kind (BiK) and capital allowance (CA) purposes.
Under the new measures, owners of popular models face annual bills that could surge from £1,608 to £8,880 for higher-rate taxpayers. Basic-rate taxpayers will see their annual tax rise from £804 to £4,440.
